Temple Of Ahn'Qiraj A Guide For AQ40. Version 0.1 (WoW Leveling)

Preparation
The Temple of Ahn'Qiraj is more scaling in difficulty than other instance. The first few bosses are on par with the harder bosses in Molten Core and the last bosses are harder than anything you find in Blackwing Lair.
Nature resistance is particularly important in this instance for many bosses. Equipment is important, but many encounters will be possible to beat with sheer wits and strategy. Nature Protection potions are clearly of use here.

Getting to the Instance Portal
There is no key required to enter the Ahn'Qiraj temple instance, nor is there any trash outside of it. Upon going through the Scarab Wall gate in southern Silithus, follow the path to the right to the instance portal.

Loot-quest System
The Temple of Ahn'Qiraj uses a Loot-quest system like Zul'Gurub or the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj.
Players must collect ten scarab items of a certain type, two stone idols of a certain type, and a single Qiraji item. When a player has the appropriate collection for a particular item and a certain level of reputation with Cenarion Hold, they can turn them in for the item.

The loot in AQ40 comes from:
· killing bosses
· killing mobs
· quest rewards. Good reputation with Brood of Nozdormu is required to complete these quests, in much the same way as Zandalar Tribe reputation is required for Zul'Gurub quest rewards. It's possible to access these quest NPC after having killed the Prophet Skeram

Enchanting 1-300 (WoW Leveling)

This guide will show you how to get your enchanting skill up from 0 to 300. The guide will only use recipe's available at a trainer until 265 and vendor available recipe's from 265 to 300.

This guide only uses recipes that require components aquired through disenchanting. Shards will be avoided as much as possible, since they are difficult to get.

This guide does not tell you how to get all the different recipe's from quests, vendors or drops. What you do once you hit 300 is entirely up to you.

This guide is primarily aimed at those who want to switch profession at high level or have high level alts, friends or guildmembers.

Preparation
You are going to need a lot of dust, essences and some shards. Create two alt storage characters, level one of the storage characters up to 5, so she can become an enchanter and send green items to her for disenchanting. Send green items to the other storage character. Since disenchanting will also give a skill point, these green items will be used to disenchant later. Use the ingame mail system to send everything to the storage characters. Don't forget to send some gold to the storage characters, so they can send everything back.

Ofcourse you want to know at which level a green item gives what. Below is a list taken from Jaywu's Enchanting FAQ.

Dust and Essence:
Generally the dust is from armor and the essence is from weapons, though it can randomly be anything.

Level 01-10: A little strange dust/lesser magic essence.
Level 11-15: Much strange dust/greater magic essence.
Level 16-20: Much strange dust/lesser astral essence.
Level 21-25: Little soul dust/greater astral essence.
Level 26-30: Much soul dust/lesser mystic essence.
Level 31-35: Little vision dust/greater mystic essence.
Level 36-40: Much vision dust/lesser nether essence.
Level 41-45: Little dream dust/greater nether essence.
Level 46-50: Much dream dust/lesser eternal essence.
Level 51-55: Little illusion dust/greater eternal essence.
Level 56-60: Much illusion dust/greater eternal essence.

Shards:
Shards come from blue or purple items (they can come from greens, but don't count on it).

Level 01-20: Small glimmering.
Level 21-25: Large glimmering.
Level 26-30: Small glowing.
Level 31-35: Large glowing.
Level 36-40: Small radiant.
Level 41-45: Large radiant.
Level 46-50: Small brilliant.
Level 51-60: Large brilliant.

Once you have all the components collected everything has to be send back to your main character. The mailbox only shows the first 50 items you have in the mail. It also puts the last item send to you on top. So to avoid complications send the components you need first last: i.e. the green items to disenchant are needed first, so these are the last to be send back to your main, after strange dust and magic essences, which are needed next, and the other dusts and essences.

To learn recipe's from a trainer costs gold. The amount of gold needed is aproximately 20 to 25 gold if you disenchant all of the dust, essences and shards. If you want to buy everything you need from the auction house expect to spend upwards to 1000 gold (including the arcanite rod). This does not include gold for recipe's from vendors or the auction house.

To enchant something requires runed rods, such as a runed silver rod. To make those runed rods you need normal rods. For example; to make a runed silver rod you need a silver rod. The following rods are needed; copper rod, silver rod, golden rod, truesilver rod and arcanite rod. The copper rod is sold by vendors and the other rods are made by blacksmiths. Find a blacksmith who can make the rods for you or check the auction house and get them. The arcanite rod is expensive. Making a runed arcanite rod is also expensive. Since it is not needed for this guide, but only for the highlevel enchants, you may want to postpone getting one if you are strapped for gold.

Below is a table that shows the amount of dust, essences and shards needed. The minimum amount column shows the minimum amount needed if you would get a skill point every time you enchant something. However at some point a recipe will be yellow or even green when you enchant something so you won't allways get a skill point. The estimated amount column deals with this, so try to get the estimated amount of dust, essences and shards on your storage character. The numbers in the estimated amount column are rounded up to full stacks of whatever the component stacks up to. The numbers in the table do not take into account the disenchanting of items to get the first skill points. If you buy everything you need from the auction house i suggest getting the minimum amount and only buy more when needed.

Getting from 1 to 50
Earlier I wrote that you need runed rods to enchant something. The first rod needed is the runed copper rod. So make a runed copper rod to get your first skill point.

Disenchanting items will get you a skill point. Send the green items you stored on a storage character to your main and disenchant them.

If you were not able to reach 50 with disenchanting, enchant a bracer with minor health to get to skill 50. You can enchant the same bracer over and over again. An annoying window will pop up each time asking if you are sure to overwrite the existing enchant. Just click yes to do so.

Once you hit 50 talk to the appropriate trainer to become Journeyman Enchanter. You have to be level 10 to become Journeyman Enchanter.

This table shows the different recipes used to get from 0 to 50.

Skill Yellow Grey Item Components From - To Components needed

Getting from 50 to 125
Enchant the bracer some more with minor health to get to 75. Now enchant the bracer with minor deflection to get to 85.

Enchant a bracer with minor stamina to get to 100.

At 100 you can make a runed silver rod, which you need later on, so make one now and get a skill point.

Enchant the bracer some more with minor stamina to get to 105, a bracer with minor agility to get to 120 and a shield with minor stamina to get to 125.

Once you hit 125 talk to the appropriate trainer to become Expert Enchanter. You have to be level 20 to become Expert Enchanter.

This table shows the different recipes used to get from 50 to 125.

Getting from 125 to 225
Enchant the shield some more with minor stamina to get to 130. Enchant a bracer with lesser stamina to get to 150.

At 150 you can make a runed golden rod, which you need later on, so make one now and get a skill point.

Enchant a bracer with lesser stamina to get to 160. Enchant a shield with lesser stamina or boots with lesser agility to get to 165. Enchant a bracer with spirit to get to 185 and a bracer with strength to get to 200.

Allthough you can become artisan enchanter once you hit 200 it is better to max to 225 first, since the trainer for artisan enchanter is inside an instance. I will get back on this in the next chapter. You have to be level 35 to become Artisan Enchanter.

At 200 you can make a runed truesilver rod, which you need later on, so make one now and get a skill point.

Enchant a bracer with strength some more to get to 205 and a cloak with greater defense to get to 225.

This table shows the different recipes used to get from 125 to 225.

Runed Truesilver Rod 205 - 225 (20) 60x Vision Dust

Getting from 225 to 265
At 225 you have to become artisan enchanter to get any further. The master enchanter that teaches artisan enchanting is inside Uldaman. The highest level recipe she trains needs 250 skill, so you want to bring enough material to get to 250.

The table below shows the components needed to get from 225 to 250, so bring these with you when going the the master enchanter in Uldaman. You will need the runed truesilver rod made earlier as well. You will also need gloves, bracers and a chest item to enchant, but you are probably wearing those, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Component Minimum Amount Estimated Amount
Vision Dust 70 (7 stacks) 90 (9 stacks)
Dream Dust 10 (1 stacks) 20 (2 stacks)
Lesser Nether Essence 10 (1 stacks) 20 (2 stacks)
Greater Nether Essence 5 (1 stacks) 10 (1 stacks)
Runed Truesilver Rod 1 1

Once you reach the trainer talk to her to become artisan enchanter. Once you're artisan enchanter enchant gloves with agility to get to 235, a chest item with superior health to get to 245 and a bracer with greater strength to get to 250. Once you have trained all the recipe's she can train you, you can leave the instance.

Enchant the bracer some more with greater strength to get to 265.

Allthough you can get to 270 before the last recipe you train from a trainer becomes yellow, I am not going to use that recipe since it requires wildvine. Wildvine is a herb and can not be aquired through disenchanting. The recipe also uses shards and i want to minimize the use of shards as much as possible. Vendor available recipe's are going to be used to get to 300.

This table shows the different recipes used to get from 225 to 265.

Skill Yellow Grey Item Components From - To Components needed
210 230 270 Enchant Gloves - Agility 1x Lesser Nether Essence,
1x Vision Dust
Required:
Runed Truesilver Rod 225 - 235 (10) 10x Lesser Nether Essence,
10x Vision Dust
220 240 280 Enchant Chest - Superior Health 6x Vision Dust
Required:
Runed Truesilver Rod 235 - 245 (10) 60x Vision Dust
240 260 300 Enchant Bracer - Greater Strength 2x Dream Dust,
1x Greater Nether Essence
Required:
Runed Truesilver Rod 245 - 265 (20) 40x Dream Dust,
20x Greater Nether Essence

Getting from 265 to 300
Get the enchant shield - greater stamina recipe from Mythrin'dir in Darnassus or Daniel Bartlett in Undercity and enchant a shield with greater stamina to get to 290. The recipe is bind on pickup when bought so make sure you buy it yourself and not an alt, friend or guildmember.

At 290 you can make a runed arcanite rod, allthough you don't need one to get to 300, you are going to need one in your enchanting career anyway, so make one now and get a skill point. You can get the runed arcanite rod recipe from Lorelae Wintersong in Moonglade.

Get the enchant cloak - superior defense from Lorelae Wintersong in Moonglade and enchant a cloak with superior defense to get to 300.

Congratulations, you now have 300 skill in enchanting.

This table shows the different recipes used to get from 265 to 300.

Skill Yellow Grey Item Components From - To Components needed
265 285 325 Enchant Shield - Greater Stamina 10x Dream Dust
Required:
Runed Truesilver Rod 265 - 290 (25) 250x Dream Dust

WoW Rep Grind and Rewards (WoW Leveling Guide)

Timbermaw Hold - has rewards for enchanting / tailor / leatherworker / blacksmith / alchemy
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info…aw/rewards.html

Grinding faction with the Timbermaw is one of the more time consuming factions to gain. There are two zones with two or three area's to kill mobs for faction.

The first zone is Felwood (http://www.thottbot.com/?z=67). Here you will kill Deadwood Avengers, Den Watchers, Gardeners, Shaman, Pathfinders, and Warriors. Each kill is worth 5 rep. One of the first quest you want to gain is 'Deadwood of the North'. This quest will require you to kill X number of Deadwood mobs. Once you have completed the quest you then get a repeatable quest to turn in 5 Deadwood Headdress Feathers. Each turn in is worth 50 rep if my memory serves me correct. Also, while killing the deadwood creatures you will come upon a unique item called 'Deadwood Ritual Totem'. Once you are neutral with the Timbermaw You can turn in the totem for even more rep.

The other location to gain Timbermaw rep is in Winterspring (http://www.thottbot.com/?z=71). Here you will kill Winterfall Totemics, Pathfinders, Den Watchers, Shaman, Ursas, Runners, and the High Chief Winterfall. The High Chief is worth 25 rep and the other mobs 5 rep. Like in Felwood you can get a quest called 'Winterfall Activity' to kill X number of Winterfalls for rep. Once you have done that quest you can do the repeatable quest to turn in Winterfall Spirit Beads. Also, just like in Felwood a unique item drops that starts a quest called Winterfall Ritual Totem. Once you are neutral with the Timbermaw you can turn in the totem for even more rep.

Cenarion Circle - has rewards for enchanting / leatherworker
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info…tions/cenarion/

I have just started working on my Cenarion Circle faction. As such this may not be a complete guide. One of the first quest that you can gain to earn faction is called 'True Believers' and 'Secret Communications'. You kill humanoids called Twilight Avengers, GeoLords, Stonecallers, etc. to find Encrypted Twilight Texts. You can continue to turn in 10 pages for faction. Each Twilight you kill also gives you 1 rep point. Once you have reached friendly with Cenarion Circle you can continue on to another quest. Here you collect a Twilight Cultist set (Robe, Cowl, Mantle) in order to gain access to a lesser summon stone I think it is. Useing the stone brings forth a level 58-60 elite. Killing the elite drops another item that you collect. Sorry, only done it once so far and can't remember the name. Collect three of these to get a token or something that is then used to move up to bigger and better summoned mobs. At the highest tier you can summon a god which is a 40 man raid boss mob.

Thorium Brotherhood - has rewards for Enchanting / Blacksmith / Leatherworking / Tailoring / Alchemy
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info…ium/vendor.html

Be prepared to do alot of farming or spend some $$ to gain Thorium Brotherhood faction. There are a number of quest in Searing Gorge (http://www.thottbot.com/?z=55) to get you started. Once you have done all the starter quest you can then work on a repeatable quest to get your rep up to friendly. The quest is called 'Restoring Fiery Flux Supplies' and will either use iron, heavy leather, or kingsblood. You will also need to collect Incendosaur Scales to add with the iron, heavy leather, or kingsblood when turning in the quest. Once you hit friendly status with the Brotherhood you need to start collecting Dark Iron Residue. There are three ways to collect residue. The easy way is to just buy residue from the AH. The other two ways is to mine
dark iron nodes that spawn randomly or to loot residue from the npc's in the BRD instance.

Argent Dawn
- has rewards for everyone
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info…ent/vendor.html

Argent Dawn rep is one of the easier factions to gain. To start there are numerous quest for both the horde and alliance to perform. Once those are done you can continue to kill the undead in Western and Eastern Plaguelands, and the instances in those zones for 'tokens' to turn in for rep.

Major City Faction

There are three main ways to 'farm' a major city faction outside of your normal every day quest currently. First way is to turn in runecloth to gain rep with a specific city. The second way is to turn in supplies for the AQ war effort and then turn in the tokens for rep. The last way is to farm rep in AV. Each time you turn in a body part, mine supply, etc. in AV you not only get the AV rep but also +10 or more rep with a major city. So you can easily gain access to a cross-racial mount.

Additional Rewards
Texts add 100 rep per 10 turned in, on my server the usually go 20g/stack of 20. you can, as the OP said grind rep from the twilight guys (1 per kill, up to 5 for the 'twilight keeper' mobs) and collect the texts off them. turn in 10 texts and you've got a nice chunk of rep.

after you summon the Templars from the Lesser Windstones (the ones that need just the robe/cowl/mantle. also noted you can usually Duo these, get a tank and a healer and you're set.) you can turn 3 of the Crests in, along with a Large Brilliant Shard, to get an item to summon Dukes. Dukes get summoned from the Regular Windstones, and require the mantle/cowl/robe and the necklace you got from turning in the 3 crests and the LBS. they can usually be 5 manned, and you will need a warrior to hold aggro. Dukes have some very interesting loot, Soulrenders are popular for Hunters/DW Fury Warriors, etc. Dukes give roughly 25 rep per kill (i think). you kill 3 of them, with each kill you get Signets. these Blue items can be turned into CH, along with 5 LBS for a ring to summon Lords. Lord summons require the mantle/cowl/robe, the Neck from summoning the Dukes, as well as the ring you got for turning in the 3 signets and the LBS's. these lords require 20-40 people depending on your guild's skill level and gear level. they drop some REALLY good epic quality items, one per type (Fire drops a caster ring, Water drops a healer neck, Wind drops a DPS cloak, and Earth drops a warrior shield.) these, when killed, give 50 rep (i think) and give you an Abyssal Scepter. these get turned in for rep as well… i dont know how much (usually whoever supplies a majority of the mats for summoning Lords gets it)

also, if your server has opened up AQ, AQ20 is a good place to get rep. bosses give 100 CC rep per kill, trash mobs give 1-5 per kill, but theres a lot of trash in there. so if you've got a good guild together, tear up AQ20 for some fun rep grinding.

most importantly, save quests for when you're Honored or Revered, same with texts. grind the trash in Silithus until they dont give rep any more, then turn in those texts you've been saving as well as the quests you've been saving as well.

AD Rep grind: if you're high level (upper 50's to 60) theres a good spot in EPL you can grind on. Fungal Glade, on my server, is RARELY camped, and i can usually make constant circles around it solo. the NPCs up here drop Invaders Scourgestones, and give rep until you're Revered with AD. after you hit Revered, go ahead and turn in those tokens (10 Invader's gives you an honor token, which gives like 50 rep i think) and grind Scholomance (more bosses = more rep ) and turn in those quests you've been saving up.

Faster Grinding: Priest (WoW Leveling Guide)

For grinding up a shadow priest (if you're going to go holy from the start don't bother grinding, run instances for your exp) stick to mobs about your lvl until you're around 40'ish then you can move up. You can kill mobs higher than you before that of course, but the xp/hour will be less. Green mobs are your friend.

Before you hit shadow form and have improved VE I would pull with mindblast, drpo a SW:P on the mob, shield, flay once or twice and then wand the rest of the way. With shadowform and imp VE I drop the PW:S (Power Word Shield) as it's incredibly mana ineffeciant and VE will top me off almost all the way during the course of every fight.

IMHO First Aid should be learned by every class and I have my first aid right up there as well, but I don't waste bandages during grinding sessions. Generally I'll sit down and eat some food when I have to drink every so often. Many of the higher level foods will give you nifty abilities such as increasing stam and spirit for 15 minutes if you spend 10 seconds eating it. I also love to have mages on the friends list that will drop me a stack of 80 conjured water as it saves on drink costs during long (10 hour+) grinding sessions.

When you're starting out wanding is a must and even at a higher level wanding is a must. When wanding you also get out of FSR (Five Second Rule) so you can begin regenerating mana quicker. When spirit tap kicks in it's almost as good as drinking. In addition your first wand should always be Lesser Magic Wand:

http://thottbot.com/?i=1325

This is made by a low level enchanter, you can use it at lvl 5, and it pumps out 11.3 DPS (can be had for very cheap as well).

I ended up with Cookies Stiring Rod next ( http://thottbot.com/?i=6502 ) which is from the DeadMine but the Greater Magic Wand (again from an enchanter) is another wonderful wand: http://thottbot.com/?i=1318

Greater Magic Wand: lvl 13 and 17.5 damage per second
Cookies Stiring Rod: lvl 17 and 22.3 damage per second

After those wands there's not much you can get on the cheap from enchanters for wands, you'll be looking at green drops.

For pure grinding I like a good mix of int/spi but don't get too hung up in stats. Once you hit lvl 40 and get Shadowform everything becomes a lot more fun.

250 Gold per Day (WoW Leveling Guide)

Please note that this requires a fair amount of time input in the two days to actually have this kind of outcome, So don't kick a fuss if it doesn't work for you because you don't put in the time.

Angerclaw Maulers
Felwood, X37, Y44.

I've posted about this spot before awhile back but I'm taking it upon myself to do so again because I have made a sickly amount of gold here latley, and a very disturbing amount in the past 2 weeks.

As a 60 Rogue in full epic gear(bloodfang) You can kill these in about 7 seconds each, literally. The respawn rate is insanely fast, When you kill the whole spawn camp of them which is about 11-12 and take a 1 minute break you'll start having respawns to kill.

Where does the money come from you ask?

Firstly you have some stackable gray items that are very commonly dropped:

Large Bear Bone(Non-Stackable) - 14s 84c each
Bear Jaw(Stackable) - 8s 98c — 89s 80c per Stack of 10.
Savage Bear Claw(Stackable) - 5s 78c — 57s 80c per Stack of 10.
Bear Flank(Stackable) - 5s 78c — 57s 80c per Stack of 10.
Wicked Claw(Stackable) - 5s — 25s per Stack of 5.

I make anywhere from 9 to 13g in gray items per hour here.

Even without the skinning compared to most places this is a great camp for gold/hr. But skinning is where a lot of the money to come from if you want the results like I get.

You can skin Rugged and Thick leather off of these. My server prices are 2.50g per stack of Rugged and 1.50g per stack of Thick. Server prices are going to range, The intake of gold on this obviously is based only on my servers prices, But you will still make amazing gold here if you put the time in.

So where does all the money come from?
I take 8 hours a day and I run it here, Straight. Not every day, Usually in the evenings and into the late hours on the nights I'm not raiding and ocasionally if there is a third day I'll get up around 7am to start and I can be done around mid afternoon so I can enjoy the day or do something else in game.

A single hour run brings on brings me in 6 Stacks of Rugged Leather and 5 stacks of Thick Leather. I don't know if it's because my kill rate is fast or just pure luck, But I can't remember when I have come away from this with less leather then that in an hours run.

6x 2.50g = 15g per hour
5x 1.50g = 7.5g per hour

If I average out my usual grey items income per hour then I come away with 10.5g per hour. I've been making money like this for months now.

Now, On to the juicy part…

Intake per hour based on Leather sales on the AH is 22.50g Per HOUR.

Intake per hour based on sellable greys averages out at about 10.50g

33 gold per hour.
Wipe the drool off keyboard and keep reading shocked.gif

I run this 8 hours per day, Two days a week. Sometimes 3 but rarely. Skinning is obviously required to get the bigger chuck of change for your time. Some of you all day BG'ers could make litterally thousands of gold here in a week if you took a week off from all day long BG and went here, Just a thought. And I'm not exaggerating. Thousands.

I try to run these 2 days back to back and I generally refuse to put up my auctions and vendor until I have my 16 hours worth of loot. I just throw it all in the bank.

At the end of my 2 days I usually end up taking 510g - 545g out of my mailbox. +- a few gold for randomness of drops.

Enchanting Grind (WoW Leveling Guide)

Nothing has been posted about grinding through enchanting yet, so here's my
attempt.

The following is a *rough strategy* of how to skill
up in enchanting. This might not be 100% accurate, but should give
anybody a good idea of how to tackle what is the most awkward
profession in the game. In addition I am currently only level 257 in
Enchanting - so I am not prepared to comment much beyond 250!

As with all professions, enchanting definitely is easier to grind after
you have a character at level 40 or greater. This way up until level
40, you can concentrate on getting cash for your mount. For a
'support' profession, you really need one that allows you to easily
make green items. Tailoring is the most sensible, as all of the
ingredients are available as drops or vendor bought. Leatherworking
is also a very good profession for making green items, especially
higher level ones (i.e. lvl 40~55), as the requirement tends to be
leather and a few vendor materials. That said, my own preference is a
'collection' profession (Skinning, Mining, Herbalism), as you can
then sell these items for much needed cash.

As hard as I've tried, I've not been able to come up with a definitive list of what
to grind on at specific skill levels. The reason being that its
impossible to know what each individual person has in the way of
resources. A person who has access to somebody with Engineering or
Blacksmith, is likely to end up with lots of essences, whereas a
person with access to Tailoring or Leatherworking, will end up with
lots of Dust. In addition, disenchant results are slightly random -
something which generally gives Dust may suddenly give you an Essence
or even a Shard, though it doesn't happen often, it is often enough
to make life difficult to create a perfect guide (Weapons seem to be
more random than Armor).

One useful hint that I can give you is with reference to when an Enchant
initially goes from Orange to Yellow. You should still get a skill up for
the first 5/10 enchants you do. You may get one non-skill up from this 'buffer',
but its still worth doing if there are no more efficient enchants.

Endeavour to locate a *good* list of Enchants, and go from one level to the
next. Every time you hit a 'magic 5' (i.e. multiple of 5: 5, 10, 15
etc) look on the list and see if there is a more efficient item that
you could be making, often there will be.

Try to be semi-self supporting. Once you hit 150 in Enchanting, there
is no reason why you shouldn't be selling some of your enchants for around the 1g/2g
mark. This definitely helps the cash flow no end. Level 250 is where
your enchants become more popular, and you can charge a significant
chunk of money for enchants. If you get the balance right, then you
should be able to buy the raw disenchanted ingredients and break even
once you have done some enchants.

I cannot iterate the following enough, but always disenchant quest
rewards - around 50% of the time I find that they drop shards.
Although the sell price of the item seems very attractive at times,
the disenchanted items should make you more.

If you're in a guild then see if you can team up with somebody else
who wants to grind up a skill. Leatherworking is a good one. If you
pick up skinning, then give them all your leather and get them to make
up green items for you to disenchant. Both of you benefit Smile

One other possible difficulty is trying
to get the raw rod for enchanting (e.g. copper, silver, golden,
truesilver, arcanite). My own take on this, is to try and buy all of
the ingredients to make one, and then try to find a blacksmith who is
prepared to make one. Offering double the cost of the learned
blacksmith recipe is a good idea as well, as this way the blacksmith
will make a profit even if they have had to learn the recipe.
Arcanite Rods are also very difficult to get. They require a high
level Alchemist and a high level Blacksmith, plus a dropped recipe
(Transmute Arcanite), rare resources (Arcane Crystals) - and that's
before you even get to enchant the thing. Expect to pay upwards of
100g for an Arcanite Rod.

Bear in mind as well, that the
Artisan trainer for Enchanting is within the Uldmaan Instance. This
however isn't too much of a hassle, as you can't train in Artisan
Enchanting until level 35, and that's about the right level for this
instance. Go with a level 60 friend and life will be really easy, but
if not, then go with a group and make sure that you want to stop off
there for around 10 minutes to level up enchanting. Offer the whole
group enchants that will get you skill ups if necessary! I would
recommend however, to level up to 225 before going to Uldmaan, and
taking enough resources with you to level up from 225 to 250 in the
instance. Also take about 20g with you and you can learn every
225~250 enchant that can be taught, that way you will never have to
go back into the instance. The reason for stopping at 250, is that
every enchant with a requirement beyond 250, is vendor bought or
dropped.

—-

Although I can't create a definitive list
of what to do when, the following is a rough idea of what to go for.
I've concentrated on things that require Dusts as it is generally
easier to get Dust than anything else.

1~50 - Disenchant anything!
1 - Enchant Chest - Minor Health (1 x Strange Dust)
50 - Enchant Bracer - Minor Stamina (3 x Strange Dust)
80 - Enchant Bracer - Minor Strength (5 x Strange Dust)
110 - Enchant 2H Weapon - Lesser Spirit (6 x Strange Dust)
130 - Enchant Bracer - Lesser Stamina (2 x Soul Dust)
140 - Enchant Bracer - Lesser Strength (2 x Soul Dust)
160 - Enchant Chest - Greater Health (3 x Soul Dust)
170 - Enchant Boots - Lesser Stamina (4 x Soul Dust)
180 - Enchant Bracer - Strength (1 x Vision Dust)
205 - Enchant Cloak - Greater Defence (3 x Vision Dust)
210 - Enchant Shield - Stamina (5 x Vision Dust)
215 - Enchant Boots - Stamina (5 x Vision Dust)
220 - Enchant Chest - Superior Health (6 x Vision Dust)
245 - Enchant Bracer - Greater Stamina (5 x Dream Dust)
260 - Enchant Boots - Greater Stamina (10 x Dream Dust)
265 - Enchant Shield - Greater Stamina (10 x Dream Dust)
285 - Enchant Cloak - Superior Defence (8 x Illusion Dust)

Erm - Ok, you could use this as a what to grind at what level I guess :p

—-

The following is a reasonable list of efficient green armor items to make
and disenchant. I've concentrated on Leatherworking and Tailoring,
for the simple reason, that I don't consider Blacksmithing and
Engineering to be very efficient as nearly all green items require
'uncommon' resources. Although alot of green Leather items require
Hides, not all do, and at higher levels the requirement for hide
drops significantly.

Strange Dust -
T30 - Brown Linen Robe (Low Yield) - 3 Bolts Linen (6) + 1 Coarse Thread
T85 - Heavy Woolen Cloak - 3 Bolts Wool (9) + 2 Fine Thread
L105 - Fine Leather Pants - 8 x Med Leather + 1 Bolt Wool (3) + 1 Fine Thread

Soul Dust -
L150 - Green Leather Armor (Vendor) - 9 x Heavy Leather + 2 x Green Dye + 4 x Fine Thread
L160 - Guardian Pants - 12 x Heavy Leather + 2 x Bolts Silk (10) + 2 x Fine Thread
T165 - Green Silk Armor (Drop) - 5 Bolts Silk (20) + 1 Silken Thread
T175 - Azure Silk Cloak (Vendor) - 3 Bolts Silk (15) + 2 Fine Thread + 2 Blue Dye
T205 - Black Mageweave Leggings - 3 Bolts Mageweave (15) + 2 Silken Thread
T205 - Black Mageweave Vest - 2 Bolts Mageweave (10) + 3 Silken Thread

Vision Dust -
L205 - Nightscape Headband - 5 x Thick Leather + 2 x Silken Thread
T210 - Black Mageweave Robe - 3 Bolts Mageweave (15) + 1 Heavy Silken Thread
T215 - Black Mageweave Gloves - 2 Bolts Mageweave (10) + 2 Heavy Silken Thread

Dream Dust -
T255 - Frostweave Robe (Drop) - 5 Bolts Mageweave (25) + 1 Rune Thread
L260 - Wicked Leather Gauntlets (Vendor) - 8 x Rugged Leather + 1 x Black Dye + 1 x Rune Thread
T265 - Runecloth Belt - 3 Bolts Runecloth (15) + 1 Rune Thread
T265 - Runecloth Gloves - 4 Bolts Runecloth (20) + 1 Rune Thread + 4 Rugged Leather
L265 - Wicked Leather Bracers (Drop) - 8 x Rugged Leather + 1 x Black Dye + 1 x Rune Thread

Good places to grind cloth (i.e. multi-drops of cloth from 1 of 3 kills or better)
I play horde so this is horde related:
Linen - Theramore Keep (South of Ratchet)
Wool - Dunholm Keep (Hillsbrad)
Silk - Roguefury Caves (Thousand Needles)
Silk - Scarlet Monastery (Trisfal Glades)
Mageweave - Feralas (Various Ogres)

—-

Overall, Enchanting can become a profitable and rewarding skill to have,
however getting to skill 300 and some of the better enchants, will take considerable
investment of cash, time and hair pulling.

One final piece is aimed at all of the buyers of enchants - please don't hassle if you
feel that an enchant is overpriced. Check out a web site and see what
actual ingredients are required for the enchant you're after. Every
shard used is effectively a blue item that wasn't sold on the AH, and
essence's come from green weapons. Some of the top level enchants
require 4 shards and a whole host of other items. If necessary
/whisper the enchanter and see what enchant they'd be prepared to do
for the price you're willing to pay. Its not your right to have an
enchant on an item, and selling enchants in a city requires the
enchanter to take time out from doing other things - *we* can't just
put our trade on the AH!

Warriors Leveling Guide (1-60) (WoW Leveling Guide)

…. A Warriors Leveling guide (1-60)

I've been reading all the threads here on (in the wow forums that is) for the last 6 months. Not many leveling guides or help for warriors and in fact a few threads asking for them. Well I tend to be a masochist in picking classes that I love but don't have any ups (faster traveling, free mounts, healing, etc) thats why I tend to play a warrior or a priest.

Now for those rolling a warrior from scratch, hopefully this guild will help. I will give you the horde point of view ( I hate alliance though I have played alliance chars up to 20 a few time but the basis is usually the same). Now I wrote this with the PVP player in mind so for PVE servers it will be much easier for you to level. In this guide you will also see a talent build to take what points to put in at what levels and when to respec for maximum efficiency.

When picking your race, it does not matter. It truly doesn't, in the end (PVP or PVE content) it comes down to skills. I will tell you I tend to pick an Orc, but any class has its ups and downs. Just pick what race you like.

Levels 1-6: Do all your quests in your starting zone. Its useful for rep and xp. When your done you should be level 5 so grind 6 away so you are more than prepared for the next zone.

Before you start your second zone go to the third, they tend to put quests in this zone for the second zone, so pick them all up and head to your second zone.

Level 7-11: Pick up all the quests and do them all. Not much thinking involved.

Levels 12-14: Third zone same thing here.

15-25: For horde you will be doing Silverpine, Crossroads then finish up in Stonetalon do quests. Stay away from grinding. Levels 19-23 do a couple of Wailing Caverns runs for some xp, quests and loot and if you want SFK and BFD.

Big keys: Always do chain quests. They always end (well, the majority of the time) with a great reward. Also if you are a solo type, stay away from orange quests or quests that you can't do fairly easily. Wait until they are yellow or green. Always dump a grey quest. Also don't spend your gold, save for your mount. And go into cooking and first aid and fishing get those and keep those as high as you can because its basically free healling and minimizes your down time.

Levels 26-37: Thousand Needles and Shimmering Flats. Stay away from the quests that tell you to go to another zone. Finish as many quests you want. Also run Gnomeragan and SM up to Cath.

38-44: Everyones favorite…..STV, hahaha. Pick up quests in Booty Bay then head to Grom'Gol, don't forget to pick up the FP at the top of the build to the far right. Pick up all the quests in Grom'gol and try to do them all. Do SM runs for some no brainer xp and good loot. YOU WILL GET GANKED (on a pvp server) SO LIVE WITH IT.

45-50: Tanaris and Felwood are your friends. Do all the quests there and run ZF a few times for loot and xp.

50-54: Finish up your Tanaris and Felwood quests and if you havent and do Un'Goro. Pick up all the quests there and do them. There are a lot of alliance/horde, however they tend to leave you alone because they are either doing quests themselves or farming mats. I do suggest to take a buddy though. Start running Sunken Temple. Great loot and xp and if you are a skinner plenty dragons to skin.

55-57: I put off WPL till you are a higher level because on PVP servers this is gank central for high levels. Do quests there and in Wintersprings and don't forget to equip your argent dawn trinket when in the plaguelands. Don't turn in the scourge stones till after you get honored with argent dawn. Try to run BRD to get attuned to molten core and make sure you pick up the quest from the dead dwarve which you can only pick up when you are dead yourself to get the shadow forge key. BRD is your first taste of end game instancing. Very good loot and xp as well (if you are in a good group).

58-60: EPL and Silithus questing. If you want grind away but make sure you are rested if not just quest away.

There you have it. The key to level is knowing the quests and doing them. Thottbot or allakhazam is your friend. Plus questing doesn't make you go insane like mindless grinding does.

Now for the talent choices…..

Levels 10-14: Cruelty (Crit is always good)
Levels 15-19: Unbridled Wrath (Gets you a lot of rage fast)
Levels 20-24: Improved Battle Shout (Ups your DPS)
Levels 25-29: Duel Wield Specialization (Ups your DPS again
Levels 30-32: Improved Rend (More damage)
Levels 33-34: Improved Heroic Stike (This will be your version of mortal strike or bloodthirst for the mean time use this and sunder armor always on mobs)
Levels 35-36: Improved Charge (Gets you more rage now)
Level 37: Improved Heroic Strike
Levels 38-39: Deflection (Not taking damage is always good)
Levels 40-42: Deep Wounds (More damge=execellent)
Levels 43-44: Improved Overpower (Critting on a rogue especially a night elf is fun)

When you hit level 45 you are going to respec.

Now what to respec at 45 to…..

Your will put 31 points into Fury:
5 in Cruelty
5 in Unbridled Wrath
5 in Improved Battle Shout
5 in Duel Wield Specialization
5 in Enrage
4 in Flurry
1 in Deathwish
and 1 in Bloodthirst

That leaves 5pts left what to put them in?

Put 5 in Anticipation from the defense tree….

wtf? why?

1pt of defense, and correct me if I am wrong or leaving out something gives you 0.4% chance to block, parry and dodge. With 5pts in anticipation it gives you 10 defense which in turn gives you 4% extra chance to block, parry and dodge.

Now I will suggest what else to put in up until level 59 so when you hit 60 you can put that last point in or respec.

Levels 46-47: Improved Beserker Rage
Levels 48-49: Improved Bloodrage
Levels 50-54: Deflection
Levels 55-59: Toughness
Level 60 if you wish: Piercing Howl, its great in BG

Crafting Intermediate Mining Blacksmithing Cash (Warcraft Leveling)

MONEY FROM INTERMEDIATE MINING (AND BLACKSMITHING)

This is a guide for leveling in mining (and blacksmithing) in order to get to the point where you can make some serious gold in the game. Let me just start off by saying that there are many ways to make gold from the mining and/or blacksmithing profession and you can certainly use this as a starting point for developing other methods. However, this guide will focus on getting you to mining level 125 and blacksmithing level 75. This guide will assume that you keep up with the training from the respective trainer to obtain the abilities discussed below.

MINING BACKGROUND

Mining consist of finding metal veins, collecting ore, and then smelting that ore into bars. A miner gets the ability to smelt and/or mine various metals at various levels. You can smelt the following metals at the following levels:

Mining Level 1: Copper
Mining Level 65: Tin
Mining Level 65: Bronze (1 bronze bar = 1 copper bar + 1 tin bar)
Mining Level 75: Silver
Mining Level 125: Iron
Mining Level 155: gold
Mining Level 165: Steel (1 steel bar = 1 iron bar + 1 coal)
Mining Level 175: Mithril

All of the above metals will produce one bar of the metal for one piece of ore when smelted. You can frequently get 4-5 pieces of ore from a single vein. There are other metals (truesilver and thorium) that can make you a TON of money, but I haven’t reached those levels yet so I will wait until I can develop a strategy for them before updating this guide.

Along with the metal, you also get various stones and gems from the veins, shown below:

- Copper veins: Rough Stones, Malachite, Shadowgem, Tigerseye
- Tin Veins: Coarse Stones, Jade, Lesser Moonstone, Moss Agate, Shadowgem
- Silver Vein: Lesser Moonstone, Moss Agate, Shadowgem
- Iron Veins: Heavy Stones, Aquamarine, Citrine, Jade, Lesser Moonstone
- gold Veins: Jade, Lesser Moonstone
- Mithril Veins: Solid Stone

So, as you can see, you will be collecting a lot of “stuff” from mining. The only thing directly useable by you is the ore as a miner. Everything else is used by blacksmiths and some other professions in some cases. Therefore, I chose to also become a blacksmith. As you will see, there is definitely money making synergy, even if you don’t you’re your blacksmithing products to other players.

MINING STRATEGY

First, as you will see above, you will only be able to mine and smelt copper until level 65. Luckily, you will get mining xp from both mining AND smelting for most, if not all, of this time. Therefore, clear out as much space as you can in your inventory and go to a lower level area. Just hunt around the foot hills for copper veins and collect ore, stones and gems until your inventory is full. I would go to the easiest area you can find so you don’t have to worry about mobs that much. For instance, see here for a map of copper veins in Elwynn Forest, near Stormwind. http://www.thottbot.com/?m=1108

Everything stacks so you will have a lot of material when you are full. In my inventory, I typically have 40 open slots (with my backpack full of other stuff and four 10 slot bags open. Theoretically you can fill each slot of the 40 with ore, stones and gems. If you do this, when you are done, you will probably have something like 3 slots of gems, 17 slots of ore and 20 slots of rough stone. It all depends on the drop rate of stone, but this is probably about right as the stone drops 2-3 sometimes and the ore typically drops one at a time. Your mileage may vary. You should note that, when smelting you will need at least one slot open for the bars to go into – as you use up the ore, it will open up another slot.

Once you are done, go to your local forge and just smelt away to make copper bars. At this point, without blacksmithing, just sell the bars, stone, gems either at auction or at vendor and rinse and repeat. The bars only sell for 10 copper and the stone only sells for 2 copper each.

BETTER STRATEGY: SYNERGY WITH BLACKSMITHING

Here’s where you can begin to see the synergy that blacksmithing can add. First, unless you really need the money from selling the gems, I would suggest banking them – they sell for good money to a vendor, typically, but you will definitely need them for armor and weapons later. Ore and stones are easy to get, gems are not since the drop rate is somewhat low. I would also save a good amount of the rough stone since blacksmiths will be able to make rough grinding stones at level 25, which are necessary for some blacksmithing plans. However, this is up to you. At level 25, making rough grinding stones is an excellent way to level.

And here is a key point: as a blacksmith, you should only make things that don’t use a lot of resources and, at the same time, are the highest difficulty available (orange, yellow, green is the order of difficulty). If you run out of orange, yellow is OK, but you won’t level as quickly. Green is very inefficient. Eventually things will “grey” out and won’t give you xp. Note that you will always get one level for each thing you make that is orange in difficulty, regardless how many resources it requires. Therefore, for leveling it don’t use gems to make something when you could get the same level by just using copper.

Therefore, I suggest you use the copper bars as a blacksmith to make copper chain pants ( see http://www.thottbot.com/?i=272 ). You can make copper chain pants from level 1 and they only require 4 copper bars. So, now for the synergy: copper chain pants sell to vendors for 67 copper – so with a little more effort, you can make 67 copper instead of 40 copper from just selling the four bars (a 68% profit difference). Keep making these pants out of copper bars until you reach level 25. I don’t remember how many pants it takes to get to level 25, but assuming it is about 35 or so, that would be about 140 iron ore, or 7 stacks.

You will get other recipes but all of them require additional resources. The only thing I would consider is making copper boots at level 20. These require 8 copper bars and no other resources. However, you will lose profit by making them – 8 copper bars would sell for 80 copper to a vendor and the boots only sell for 49 copper. However, they will also give you more xp than the pants at level 20. This minimal loss is enough to get you to level 25, which is where you can make rough grinding stones. Rough grinding stones sell to a vendor for 5 copper, while the rough stones only sell for 2 copper (a 150% profit difference). They will also give you good xp for a while, so just make these until they turn yellow in difficulty.

Note that the above examples assume you will sell the items to a vendor. The pants and boots should definitely go to a vendor since it is not worth selling them at auction. However, the rough grinding stones are in demand because they are required as blacksmithing components. Therefore, you may find it desirable to sell them on auction depending on the market at your server. I don’t have the specifics, but they will almost certainly sell for a decent amount above the vendor. It all depends on how much time you want to take setting up the auctions. I simply sold some to a vendor and kept some for myself.

Now things become a little fuzzy because there are so many options. But here is what I would suggest you use to level:

- Blacksmithing Level 35: Copper Chain Belt – 6 copper bars
- Blacksmithing Level 40: Runed Copper Gauntlets – 8 copper bars, 2 rough grinding stones
- Blacksmithing Level 45: Runed Copper Pants – 8 copper bars, 2 fine thread (buy from tailor vendor), 2 rough grinding stones

Some of this might be inefficient in terms of gaining xp because the difficulty of the item drops eventually, but these are the lowest cost items in terms of resources. Feel free to vary on what you use to level, but try to keep your costs down as much as possible.

At mining level 65, you get the ability to mine tin, which also drops coarse stones. Once again save the gems and coarse stones. After this level of mining is reached, use the following to level in blacksmithing:

Blacksmithing Level 65: Coarse Sharpening Stone – 1 coarse stone
Blacksmithing Level 75: Coarse Grinding Stone – 2 coarse stones

END GOAL OF THIS guide: MINING LEVEL 125, BLACKSMITHING LEVEL 75:

At level 75 in blacksmithing, you get the ability to make Coarse Grinding Stones. As far as mining goes, continue to mine whatever will give you xp (tin, silver, gold, etc). At level 125 in mining, you get the ability to mine/smelt iron. This is where you can make some serious money. Eventually copper and tin will grey out, as will smelting entirely. However, you will still get xp from mining silver, gold and, the goal of this guide in mining: Iron., which you will obtain at level 125 in mining.

And here, finally is where the cash really starts rolling in. Iron bars on my server sell for a buyout of 2 gold per stack and there is not much supply for sale out there. Last night there was one auction with a buyout of 1 gold 75 silver, 4 auctions with a buy out of 2 gold and 1 auction with a buyout of 7 gold (what WAS he thinking lol). Thus, there were only 6 auctions for Iron Bars. Given that I had 8 stacks of 20 iron bars that I had accumulated, I could have made a killing. But I only sold one at 1 gold 75 silver (just for kicks) and it sold very quickly. Therefore, if you are interested in easy money, just mine iron, smelt the bars and sell them at auction. No cost to you at all, other than time!

If you were to just find iron veins and throw away everything but the ore (bad idea because other things are very valuable also), you could fill up each slot in your inventory with 20 ore/bars. Assuming you spent enough time to fill up 40 slots in inventory, at 2 gold per stack this could theoretically net you 80 gold. That’s a lot of mining, but it’s easy money if you can put up with the grind.

Coarse grinding stones can also be sold for a good profit. While I haven’t sold any yet, there are NONE at the auction house right now and I hear people in ironforge frequently requesting them. I have asked myself, just see what the response will be, but no one ever had any for sale. Therefore, this is an untapped market. I will put up an auction tonight for coarse grinding stones and let you know how it goes.

The same strategy above can be extrapolated to heavy stone, mithril (which sells for 5 gold a stack) and other materials. But I have found that iron (iron ore) and tin (coarse stones) are the most plentiful veins in the game after copper. Therefore, I think this is sweet spot for money making.

Macros, Scripts, Addons Etc. Explained (WoW Leveling)

This is a post that tries to explain the basic ideas behind and differences between terms like Macros, Scripts and AddOns to those who are either beginners to using such things or to making such things. All credits go to Legorol from the Hellscream server who posted this on the official Interface Customization bord.

Slash Commands
————————
To understand how everything else works, first it's useful to know what a Slash Command is. wow allows you to give simple commands to the game in the form of a slash (/) followed by the name of the command. You can give these commands directly by typing them into the chat box. An example would be the "/follow" command. If you target a friendly character and type "/follow" (without the quotes), you start following them. You can get a list of some of the slash commands by typing "/help".

Here is the official sticky the EU forum which gives the complete list of all slash commands:
http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-interface-en&t=7&p=1&tmp=1#post7

There are several types of slash commands, a lot of which you may already be familiar with (such as /1, /p, /g). Some are designed to perform game actions (e.g. /follow, /assist, /cast), others are chat related commands (e.g. /yell, /chatlist) or give you information (/who). You also have emotes (/laugh, /bow).

Finally, there is one very special slash command "/script", which I will explain later.

Macros
————–
The purpose of a Macro is to allow you to create some very simple custom actions or tasks, based on the existing game actions. A macro is just a sequence of slash commands, which are executed immediately and in order when you execute the macro. To create a new macro, either type "/macro" (without the quotes), or click on the speach bubble next to the chat box and select macro. You can then give a macro a name, an icon and type in a few lines of slash commands. The macro is created in the form of an action that you can drag onto your hotbar. You can activate the macro by clicking on the resulting button on the hotbar.

An example macro would be:
/cast Fireball(Rank 1)
/yell "I am frying it!"
This macro merely casts a fireball, and then yells for everyone to hear that you have done so.

Macros have some severe limitations, and are only intended for very very simple tasks.

FAQ:
Q: Can I cast two or more spells in a macro?
A: No. The most important limitation is that you can not cast more than one spell using a macro. This limitation is there so that macros can't automate too much for you. You can have as many other commands within the 256 character limit as you like.

Q: Can I wait between commands in a macro?
A: No. There is no command for waiting or pausing in a macro.

Q: Can I make a macro that casts different spells?
A: Yes. It is perfectly possible to make a macro that casts a different spell each time you run it, perhaps cycling through a list of spells. The limitation is one spell cast per keypress or mouse click (i.e. one spell cast each time the macro is run), but that one spell can be different each time.

Scripts
————–
Usually, not just in wow, the term Script refers to a short to medium length program, written in some kind of simple programming language (called a scripting language). The purpose of a script is usually to control another program.

World of Warcraft has a powerful programming language called Lua embedded inside it, which is used for scripting. What this means is that wow is able to understand and execute little programs written in the Lua language. However, in wow, a script is usually not something that you use by itself, i.e. you don't just type in a script and execute it (although this is also possible). Instead, there are several places in wow where you have the option to enter scripts as part of something else.

The kind of places that you can use a script in:
[li] /script [command] : If you type the slash command "/script" in the chat box, you can follow it with one or more valid Lua language statements (i.e. a script), separated by semi-colons (;).
[li] Macros: you can enter scripts as part of macros, by putting one or more "/script" command in your macro.
[li] User Interface modifications and AddOns: You can read more about these below, but the main point is that these are all created using Lua scripts (and also XML technology, but don't worry about that right now).

In all the cases you can use scripts in, the things you can do with the scripts are the same.

So what can a script do? There are many resources on Lua scripts. Some of the links that are useful:
http://www.lua.org for an explanation of the language
http://www.wowwiki.com for reference material
The most important point however is that scripts are able to perform many more game actions than slash commands. This is done via a set of functions (called API or Application Programming Interface) that wow makes available for use in scripts. Here is a link to a quite extensive list of all the API functions available for use in scripts:
http://www.wowwiki.com/World_of_Warcraft_API

After all that explanation, here is an example of a script. [/pre] if (IsPartyLeader()) then
CastSpellByName("Fireball(Rank 1");
end[/pre] This script is very simple. When you execute this script, if you are the party leader, then you cast a fireball. To use this script, you could do so for example via the "/script" command. E.g. you could type this: [/pre] /script if (IsPartyLeader()) then CastSpellByName("Fireball(Rank 1"); end[/pre] directly into the chat box. Or you could make that line part of a macro, so that it's reusable.

In summary: a script in wow is a short program written in the Lua language, able to interact with the game and perform game actions. You use a script by including it as part of something else, e.g. by putting it in a macro via the /script command, or by putting it in a UI Mod or AddOn.

User Interface Mods and AddOns:
————————————————
Blizzard has made the decision that the user interface of World of Warcraft is fully customizable, modifiable and extendable. This is completely legal, and is encouraged by Blizzard. A User Interface Modification (UI Mod for short) and AddOn is exactly the same thing, the difference is merely in their names. Usually Mods tend to refer to smaller things that only modify existing funcionality of the user interface, whereas AddOns tend to add extra functionality. From now-on I will collectively refer to anything that customizes the wow UI as an AddOn.

AddOns are created using the Lua scripting language mentioned above, and XML technology. They are pretty powerful and can often do more than merely add fancy buttons and windows on your screen. I will not go into the gory details of how you create these, there are many excellent introductory guides around. Here is a link you will find useful if you are interested in more details:
http://www.wowwiki.com/Interface_Customization

From a user's point of view, what you need to know is that AddOns come in the form of one or more text files, ending in the ".xml" and ".lua" extensions. These files are supposed to go into a folder called Interface in your World of Warcraft folder, or into one of it's sub-folders. Usually AddOns are distributed as zip files by their authors, and you "install" them by simply unzipping them in your World of Warcraft folder. (If you don't see an Interface folder, don't worry. It is not there by default. If you want to put anything into it, you are free to create it yourself).

Warning: Be very very careful with AddOns that come as executable ".exe" files. Always triple-check before you use these to make sure that they really do what they say they do, as executable files can do anything whatsoever to your computer. AddOns are supposed to be written in text format in .xml and .lua files, so that anyone can check that there is nothing malicious about them. You have no such check available with executable files. Also, since AddOns only operate within wow, they can't harm your computer, whereas executable files can.

Having said that, lot of authors distribute their AddOns as executable files. These executables most of the time don't do more than just unzip the AddOn's files and place them in your wow folder in the appropriate places. Occasionally the executables are used to automatically download updated versions of the AddOn, or to upload data collected by the AddOn (for example item statistics to be put on a web-site etc.).

Installing: You usually install an AddOn by simply unzipping the file it came in into your World of Warcraft folder. Sometimes you have to copy the AddOn's files into its place manually. Each AddOn lives in its own folder, and you should end up with a folder structure like this for each AddOn:
World of WarfratInterfaceAddOns<addon name>

Uninstalling: You can always uninstall any AddOn by deleting the AddOn's folder. You can reset the wow UI to its default state by deleting the World of WarcraftInterface folder.

Cosmos, CTMod, Gypsy, Nurfed and other AddOn packages:
———————————————————–
If you look around the forums a bit, you will see names like Cosmos, CTMod, Gypsy and Nurfed popping up. These are major AddOn packages that contain a large number of UI AddOns. Their authors (often working in teams) are respectable members of the wow community who have worked hard to create useful (and sometimes not-so-useful) AddOns for your gaming pleasure, and have bundled them together into one easy-to-use package.

Feel free to use any and all of these packages. They are legal, Blizzard allows and encourages their use, although you won't get technical support from Blizzard if something is wrong with them. There are many of these around, download and try a few of them and see if you like them. Usually the authors make these packages highly configurable so that you can adjust them to your needs.

Note: a lot of these major AddOn packages conflict with each other, so you won't be able to use them together.

Standalone, pure AddOns, what's so good about them?
—————————————————————
You will often see AddOn authors being proud of their AddOn being "standalone", or "pure addon". In the past, often AddOns modified existing UI functionality by changing something in the existing, core UI files provided by Blizzard. This has lead to conflicts as different AddOns all tried to modify the same file. A "pure addon" is one that does not modify any existing files, and merely adds its own files. This is a very good thing, because you can have any number of such AddOns happily coexisting side-by-side.

Also, a lot of AddOns depend on other AddOns for their operation. For example, most AddOns in the Cosmos package wouldn't work by themselves, and need some of the core AddOns in the Cosmos package to be present to work. A "standalone" AddOn is one that is capable of working by itself, with nothing more than just that one AddOn being present. Again, this is a good thing, because it allows you to pick and choose just those exact AddOns that you want, without having anything you don't want.

Having said that, from the point of view of an AddOn's author, you will find that often a lot of AddOns do very similar sort of things. It is much more easy and quick for an AddOn author to create a new AddOn if they can rely on existing functionality in other AddOns or some common core "libraries". That's why there are AddOns out there that depend on things such as the "Sea" function library, which in itself is just a core AddOn. If you find an AddOn that requires some other core AddOn, don't be afraid of it. Just make sure you also download the core AddOn.

Think of this as how a lot of games nowadays depend on DirectX on the PC. Game authors can write their games much quicker knowing that the user's computer will provide them with the functionality they need in the form of DirectX. If you are happy about running games that require DirectX (such as wow), you should also be happy about running AddOns that require other, common core addons.
